The architectural style is Gothic Revival and ground breaking for the cathedral was in 1863. It was finally completed in 1989. There are guided tours available and a book shop located next door. There is also a smaller church built next to the cathedral that is called St. Stephen’s Chapel.
  2. Spend a Day at South Bank Parklands
This beautiful area, which is the site of the original settlement, offers lots to do in one spot. Walking paths, an inner city beach area, lush gardens, trendy restaurants, and open markets can all be enjoyed by visitors. There is also a covered auditorium and the area is home to the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. This is a lovely spot where there’s really something for almost everyone. 3. Experience Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
Situated on 11 acres in the suburbs of Brisbane, the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary was founded in 1927. It is the world’s largest and oldest sanctuary of its kind. This wonderful zoo allows visitors to feed and touch many of the animals. Some of the animals roam freely or have low level fences surrounding their areas. A few of the animals to enjoy include koalas, kangaroos, dingos, wombats, Tasmanian devils, and a variety of birds and reptiles. Visitors can also watch the sheep dogs in action during one of the shows. The sheep dog shows are held in what is considered a small “farm” area.
  4. Enjoy the River Cruises
There are several river cruises to choose from including River City Cruises, Kookaburra River Queens, and Mirimar Day Cruises. Passengers can enjoy viewing historical homes and landscape. There are also cruises that take tourists to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. A variety of packages can be chosen when cruising with the different companies. Christmas and wedding packages are available as well as cruises that provide music, finger foods, and a full buffet.
  5. Discover the Brisbane Story Bridge
Just as the Harbour Bridge in Sydney must be experienced, the Brisbane Story Bridge is one of the top reasons to travel to Brisbane. This is only one of three bridges worldwide that can be climbed. It is considered a relatively easy climb, with the steepest section near the beginning. Climbers will eventually reach 80 meters above sea level to experience the spectacular views of Brisbane. It takes about 2 and a half hours to complete the trek across the bridge.
  6. Gallery of Modern Art
This modern art gallery features several exhibits for visitors to enjoy. The gallery not only has a variety of Australian art on display but Asian, Pacific, and International art. Some of the traveling exhibitions that have been on display include modern Japanese prints and Indigenous Australian art. Daily guided tours throughout the gallery are free and usually take about 30 to 40 minutes.
